The behavior is surprising. I wanted to test the setup while I wait for my USB adapter to arrive.

I installed the demo version on my Mac (10.15).
On first start, I got a message about missing access rights for the keyboard.
In System Preferences, I gave have the permission "Allow the apps below to monitor input from your keyboard even while using other apps."
